The Centre for Early Modern Studies at KCL invites submissions for papers to be presented at a conference on 17th December 2024. The theme is ‘Rethinking State and Society in Early Modern Britain’. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

State formation and social change
State power in everyday life
Participation in and exclusion from state power
Gender and the state
Race and the state
The state in Wales, Scotland, and Ireland
The state and the Atlantic world
(Dis)connections between state authority and social authority
Historiography of the state and society in the early modern period
Sources for studying the state and society
Proposals for individual papers (20 mins) or 3-paper panels should be sent to Dr Jonah Miller (jonah.4.miller@kcl.ac.uk). The deadline for proposals is Friday 1st November.
