CEMS Welcome: Courting India Book Club

  • Bush House (S), Room 2.06 Central Block, Bush House, Strand Campus London, WC2B 4BG (map)

KCL’s Centre for Early Modern Studies will be kicking off the academic year with a reading group on Nandini Das’s Courting India: England, Mughal India and the Origins of Empire (Bloomsbury, 2023).

Please do try to read the whole book, or a few chapters to get a flavour. If you have time, you may also wish to check out Keywords of Identity, Race, and Human Mobility in Early Modern India, edited by Nandini Das, João Vicente Melo, Haig Z. Smith, and Lauren Working (Amsterdam University Press, 2021), to get a better understanding of Das’s wider project and its methodologies. Courting India is available as an e-book through the KCL library and Keywords is available open access.

This will be a great opportunity to meet and reconnect with KCL’s early modernists. Food and drinks will be provided!
