You will get to know this little-known migrant-community through the life of Georg Andreas Ruperti, who was a Lutheran minister at St Mary’s and Court Preacher at St James’s Palace. Discover how he connected English and German communities, bridged science and faith in his botanical research, and led relief efforts during the 1709–10 “Palatine” refugee crisis, when thousands of German migrants were housed in camps in Blackheath and elsewhere across London.
Renowned organist Richard Brasier closes the event with tunes heard at St Mary’s around the year 1700, transporting you straight into Ruperti’s world.
This is a rare chance to experience history through art, words, and music, and to encounter a remarkable migrant community whose story still resonates today!
