Preparing Your First Academic Article

  • Bush House (s)1.02 London, WC2B 4BG (map)

CEMS warmly invites late-stage PGRs to join us for our second PGR workshop of the Winter '21 term. This informal, in-person event will introduce participants to strategies for approaching academic publication. The session will be led by early modernists from across A&H, who will offer advice on a range of issues — including journal placement, the peer review process, and ways of integrating an article into future post-doc planning.

The workshop will be an introductory one and, as such, there is no requirement to circulate draft material in advance (although participants are very welcome to do so). Each participant will be invited to say a few words on their research during the opening roundtable segment, and to discuss possible article topics in a general sense. For those interested, we will also run a follow-up workshop in Semester 2, which will offer targeted feedback from A&H faculty on first article drafts.

The event will take place in-person (with pastries) in Bush House on Monday 6 December at 2pm GMT. All college COVID-19 protocols will be carefully observed. If you'd like to participate, please do send us an email (cems@kcl.ac.uk) – we ask that you include your department, institution, and current stage of research. All late-stage PGRs and ECRs with an interest in the early modern period are welcome, but please be aware that numbers will be limited on a first come, first served basis.

We look forward to hearing from you.
